Four Ways to Use Silane Coupling Agent

1. Direct mixing the direct participation of silane is the simplest method for coupling modification of granular fillers in liquid resins. For example, when mixing rubber, it can be directly mixed with silane granular filler for immediate disposal. The effect of adding silane depends on the adsorption capacity of the filler to silane during the mixing operation.

2. Treat the filler with the organic solvent of silane. This method is to mix the filler with the dilute solution of silane in the organic solvent, then filter and dry. Compared with the case of using aqueous solution, the anhydrous solvent makes the silane deposited on the surface of the filler closer to a monomolecular layer, and the treated fine particle filler is different from that of the aqueous solution, and does not agglomerate when dried.

3. Disposal of fillers with aqueous solution When disposing of glass fibers, almost all dispersants of silane (and other co-agents) in water are used. It is very effective to treat coarse-grained fillers such as glass microspheres and glass fibers with an aqueous solution, which is easy to dry and does not agglomerate. Fine particle fillers can also be treated with aqueous solution, but the spray drying method should be used to avoid agglomeration.

4. Treatment of fillers by dry blending the use of dry blending to process fillers is to hope that high surface area fillers can retain a large amount of silane in a stable dry powder form, so that when it is dry mixed with resin or other untreated fillers, it will There are monomeric silanes available for migration. Sufficient diffusion of silane on the filler surface may take more than a few days. The normal transportation and storage time is enough to make the silane fully dispersed on the mass-processed packing. In general, ethoxysilanes or propoxysilanes are much more stable on filler surfaces than methoxysilanes. The use of silane coupling agents in composite materials should fully consider the characteristics of organic polymers and inorganic materials, select suitable silane material, and choose the correct application method according to their production process characteristics, so as to obtain satisfactory economical and practical results.
