Applications and Processing of Methyl MQ Silicone Resin

Methyl MQ (MQ) silicone resin is a unique organosilicon resin with a three-dimensional spherical structure formed through the co-hydrolysis-condensation reaction of organosilicon compounds containing tetrafunctional siloxane chains (SiO4/2, Q) and organosilicon compounds containing monofunctional siloxane chains (R3SiO1/2, M). With a molar mass typically ranging from 1000 to 8000 g/mol, MQ silicone resin exhibits a wide range of states from viscous fluid to solid powder, characterized by hardness and brittleness, with a broad glass transition temperature (Tg) range.

MQ silicone resin is often considered to have a double-layered, closely packed spherical structure, consisting of a Si-O chain-connected, high-density, cage-like SiO2 core (Q chain) with a polymerization degree of 15-50, surrounded by a low-density R3SiO1/2 shell (M chain).
